Field Notes

Travel, film photography and slow mornings.

A week of grey light on the coast

Three rolls of Portra, one broken lens cap and the best fish soup I have had in years. The weather never cleared, which turned out to be a gift: flat light is kind to old harbours and tired faces.

I am still scanning the negatives. A few of them are already up on the wall.

Developing at home, second attempt

The first batch came out thin and streaky. This time I kept the temperature steady with a bowl of warm water and agitated less. Much better. Notes on timings for anyone who wants them are at the end.

Morning walks

Same route every day for a month, same camera, one frame per morning. Thirty frames of the same bench, the same tree, a slightly different sky. Small habits are the easiest to keep.
